Patch tasked us with creating a unique coworking space that would educate and support local businesses. The project involved repurposing a historic building in Chelmsford city centre, balancing functionality with heritage requirements. Key challenges included incorporating original columns and intricate ceiling details into the design while meeting modern workspace needs.

A Space Where Community Thrives

We worked closely with Patch to develop a layout that met their business model, retaining much of the original wooden flooring and adding matching sections for continuity. Glazed partitions were designed to showcase the building’s historic columns while maintaining functionality. The ground floor became a dynamic hub, featuring a café, an event space, and an area for local businesses to display products. These spaces encourage interaction between members and the wider community.

Honouring Heritage, Enabling Growth

The space balances the building’s historical character with modern coworking needs. From functional workspaces to inviting breakout areas, the space embodies Patch’s vision of community-first coworking, offering a vibrant environment for locals and businesses alike.
