Clerkenwell Design Week 2024: Spotlight on Benchmark and London Metropolitan University and DOMUS

Each year, Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) serves as a hub of creativity and inspiration for design enthusiasts worldwide, and it’s a great opportunity for us to find the latest trends shaping the future of workspace design. We are excited to see the installation of Benchmark and students from London Metropolitan University and merge tech innovation with sustainability with DOMUS. Both are known for their commitment to high quality and sustainability, fitting right in with what we’re all about.

Benchmark and London Metropolitan University

At the British Collection, Benchmark collaborates with London Metropolitan University’s B.A. Product and Furniture Design students in a project called Aldgate Gold. Led by Simon Hasan, students repurpose discarded London street objects using offcuts from Benchmark’s workshop. They’ve created items like footwear, side tables, and lights. Festival attendees can vote for their favourite creation, with the winning student receiving a special prize from Benchmark, showcasing the project’s focus on sustainable design from young, creative minds.

DOMUS Tiles

Known for their large selection of tiles and mosaic materials, DOMUS leads the industry with offerings that range from 5mm micro-mosaics to 5sqm slabs, in materials like ceramic, porcelain, and luxury stones. Their display promises to dazzle, featuring various styles from neutral hues to bold colours and innovations in textures and bespoke patterns. This year, DOMUS’s focus on combining technological advancements with sustainable practices makes their exhibit a must-see for our team, providing us with fresh inspiration for future workspace designs.

Our Design Manager, Emily Sheridan, sums it up perfectly: “Clerkenwell Design Week is so much more than just browsing around. It’s where we gather new ideas and inspiration to bring back into our designs. I’m really excited about the collaboration between Benchmark and London Metropolitan University. Seeing the students turn discarded materials into innovative, sustainable designs is truly inspiring. This event might just be where we witness the start of the journey for future visionary designers!”
